How to Choose The Different Laser Watt for Laser Marking Machine?
Feb 27, 2025
What are the available laser power options:
Low power: 20W/30W: fine marking (e.g. electronic components), light engraving tasks.
Medium power: 30W/50W/60W: applicable to the general industrial, general-purpose engraving.
High power: >100W/200W: deep engraving or high-speed marking or thin metal plate cutting.
Application of different power of laser marking machine:
1. Low power (20-30W)
Applicable materials:
Metal: stainless steel, aluminum alloy (thin-layer oxidation mark).
Non-metal: plastic, acrylic, paper, coating materials.

Typical applications:
Fine marking of electronic components (chips, PCB boards).
Print the date/batch number of drug packaging and food label.
Jewelry, glasses and other small pieces of high precision engraving.
Advantages:
Low energy consumption, small heat affected zone, suitable for high-precision and small-batch scenarios.
2. Medium power (30W-60W)
Applicable materials:
Metal: stainless steel, copper, iron, titanium alloy, etc.
Non-metal: wood, leather, glass (special wavelengths such as /UV).
Typical applications:
Serial number /LOGO marking for hardware tools and auto parts.
Medium depth engraving of industrial plastic parts and ceramic products.
Medium speed production (e.g. tens of pieces per minute).
3. High power (60W-200W+)
Applicable materials:
Highly reflective metals (such as aluminum, gold, silver).
Hard materials that require deep carving (such as stone, carbide).
Typical applications:
Deep engraving of automotive engine parts and aerospace parts.
Pattern engraving on building stone and mold steel.
High-speed production lines (such as bottle cap marking of hundreds of pieces per minute)
Specific selection suggestions:
1. Metal materials:
Common metal (stainless steel, iron) :
Shallow marking: 20W-50W fiber laser.
Medium depth engraving: Choose 30W-60W, suitable for most industrial scenes
Deep engraving or high speed marking: 50W-100W or higher power.
High reflective metals (aluminum, copper, gold) : Higher power required (60W-200W)
2. Non-metallic materials:
Plastic/Acrylic: The CO₂ laser (10W-30W) meets most needs.
Wood/Leather: CO₂ laser (30W-60W) suitable for fast engraving.
Glass/Ceramics:
Uv laser (3W-10W) or green laser (5W-20W) to avoid thermal cracking.
Uv laser (3W-5W) is available for sensitive materials such as PET.
3. Special needs:
Hyperfine labeling (such as semiconductor chips) :
Uv laser (3W-5W), low power + short wavelength achieves micron level accuracy.
High-speed pipeline:
Fiber laser (50W-100W) + flight marking system, both speed and quality.
Multi-material compatibility:
Choose medium and high power (such as 60W fiber laser) + multi-wavelength optional models.
